The Bible does not command or prohibit us to "brand" our churches. So, why are we interested in creating and maintaining an attractive & consistent "brand" for our communications efforts with our members and the general public?
We are not called to be graphic designers, website managers or social media gurus. However, we are to "become all things to all men so that by any possible means we might save some"... that means that we are constantly competing with secular culture for the affections and attentions of those far from Christ. Our hope is to "remove obstacles" by doing our best to eliminate the possibility of someone writing off our church before they ever step foot in the door because they think we are outdated, irrelevant or have bad taste. This does not mean compromise... and we do not believe that communicating in an excellent way is compromise. If we can remove the obstacles and gain a hearing, we believe that the Gospel is more than sufficient to do the rest.
We are called to make disciples. This means that we need to be carefully efficient with the time we spend doing anything else. If we can consolidate our efforts with the secondary things (see #1 above), then we can get back to doing what we were created to do! Therefore, if we can create one graphic instead of 3 different ones, great! If we can use a template for multiple graphics rather than recreating the wheel every time, great! Now, back to work...
This very process is an opportunity for discipleship. As we do these things, we add people to our team according to their talents/interest. As we train/teach/incorporate them, this creates scenarios where discipleship can take place. As we work with each other, we learn things about each other through sidebar conversations. We grow closer and we can minister to each other! The point of families sharing dinner together isn't the food, it's the bonding time!
